Nextflow Training Week Instructions 2026

:rocket: Nextflow Training Week is a quarterly self-paced online training designed for accessibility and flexibility. Featuring on-demand walkthrough videos and support via office hours and the community forum, this event replaces fixed-schedule Community Trainings—allowing learners to start anytime during the week and get timely help from our staff and the global Nextflow community.

Instructions for participants

  1. To register for Nextflow Training Week February 2026, click here

  2. Go to the Nextflow training portal and pick a training course.

  • For newcomers to Nextflow, we recommend starting with the Hello Nextflow course if you want to learn to develop your own pipelines, or Nextflow Run if you just want to run existing workflows.
  1. Follow the instructions on your chosen training course’s home page.
  • This will involve launching a GitHub Codespaces cloud-hosted training environment, eliminating the need for software installation—you only need a web browser and a GitHub account (which is free). You will also find complete written instructions walking you through the course.
  1. If you run into any trouble or have any questions, post your question in the community forum.

  2. We’ll have staff members as well as community members in multiple timezones standing by to answer your questions and help you keep moving through the course.

  • You can also book office hours on Zoom. We’ll have staff members available to answer questions and discuss the materials over Zoom.
  • Book a 15 minute slot from 7:00 AM - 11:00 AM EST or 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM EST using the schedule link here.

6. Be sure to complete the quiz at the end of the course.

  • This will not only help reinforce what you’ve learned but is also required to receive your certificate of completion.

Hi,
Thank you for providing this training material. I have a question about the structure of the lessons. I noticed there is a section called “nextflow run” above “hello nextflow”, and as a beginner this was a bit confusing for me. The content in that section feels very similar to the “hello nextflow” chapter, but presented in a way that made it harder to follow.
Could you please explain why this section exists, how it is different from “hello nextflow”, and at what point learners are expected to study it?
Thank you for your help.

Great question! We’re about to merge + release the new version of the training material with all of the (significant) updates for this training week. One of those updates is this handy little box summarising the courses:

Nextflow for Newcomers

Domain-agnostic courses intended for those who are completely new to Nextflow. Each course consists of a series of training modules that are designed to help learners build up their skills progressively.

Hello Nextflow: Learn to develop your own pipelines
This course covers the core components of the Nextflow language in enough detail to enable developing simple but fully functional pipelines, plus key elements of pipeline design, development and configuration practices.

Nextflow Run: Learn to run existing pipelines
This is an abridged version of the Hello Nextflow course, covering the core components of the Nextflow language in enough detail to understand the basic structure of Nextflow pipelines and relate that to the experience of running and monitoring pipeline executions on the command-line, plus the basics of tool management and pipeline configuration practices.

So the reason that feels similar is because it is a shortened version of the same material. It’s designed to run in less time and for a slightly different audience. It’s one of our newer courses so hasn’t been battle tested quite as much as “hello nextflow”, but it’s getting there - especially with the new updates that should land any day now.

I hope that helps to clear things up!

Hello! Thank you so much for the training materials and the scheduled weeks. I have an inquiry about the next training week, from February 9th to 13th. I saw that there’s a possibility of obtaining a certificate of completion for the course. Is it possible to get a program (pdf) with the course hours that the course takes (video and sessions)? I’d like to submit it as credit for my doctoral studies. Thank you very much!

Hi! Sorry for the delayed response. The beginner courses (Hello Nextflow and Nextflow Run) have a table of lessons and estimated durations which might serve your purpose, see eg Hello Nextflow - training.nextflow.io at the bottom of the page. We are planning to add similar tables for the other courses but those are not finalized yet.

I hope that helps!

Hi,

I wonder when will the quiz for certificate open and when is the deadline to finish it?

I am on my vacation next week, but I did finish the training courses by myself before so I wish to join and finish the quiz and get the certificate.
Is it possible to extend the deadline of quiz for personal reason?

Hi @yejin1016 , we’ll leave the quiz open for a week after training week to give everyone time to complete it (sometimes it takes a few tries). As long as you’re registered for the event you should be able to access it during that time.

Hi i was wondering will this fantastic set of courses still open for new learners after the end of the Nextflow Training Week? And can we use the GitHub Codespaces to write and run our own Nextflow pipeline? Many thanks!

Hello, I have not received introductory information email.

Could you please provide it?

Hi @Rachel , yes, the courses will remain available all the time. You’re welcome to use the codespaces to write and run your own pipelines; just be aware that the free service (which is run by Github, no us) has some quota limitations, so unless you are willing to pay for higher quota, you may run out. We provide instructions for installing the same environment on your own machine here: Environment options - training.nextflow.io

Hi @Svetlana_Sokolova , I will ask my colleague to get that to you asap.

Hi, I haven’t received the intro email to training week. I would like to register for office hours. Thanks!

Hi @mtouced , I will ask my colleague to send you the email.

Hello Geraldine,

Thank you for your response.
I could enter the introduction session from my gmail email.
But I registered from another one: ssokolova01@qub.ac.uk
I have already received an email from one of your colleagues, Phil Ewels.
He told me to register again and tick all boxes.
I am going to try, but it would be great if you could send me these materials if it is possible.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,
Svetlana Sokolova
